WithCare
Expanding — Elder Support

WithCare

Dignity, companionship, practical help, and intergenerational connection.

Our Mission

Aging should never mean invisibility.

WithCare is Synthield's elder support initiative. We believe that the wisdom, experience, and humanity of our elders are not burdens — they are gifts the rest of the system needs.

We connect elderly individuals with youth volunteers, rescued animals, and community members — not as charity, but as genuine relationship. Dignity and companionship are at the center of everything we do.

Dignity

Every elder is treated with the full respect and honor their life has earned.

Companionship

We show up with genuine human attention and time. Presence matters more than programs.

Connection

We bridge elders with youth and community — because isolation harms wellbeing more than age does.

The Approach

Presence first. Programs second.

WithCare does not deliver services to elders. It delivers people — consistent, caring, trained volunteers who show up, listen, and build genuine relationships over time.

Every interaction is designed around dignity: the elder is not a recipient, but a participant. The volunteer is not a savior, but a companion. The relationship is what creates the change.

Led By

Community coordinators and elder care professionals who understand that consistency matters more than intensity.

Leaders are selected for their ability to build trust with both elders and families, navigate sensitive dynamics, and sustain long-term volunteer engagement. They know the neighborhood, the resources, and the people who need them.

What We Do

Building a culture of presence.

Elder with companion

Many elders face a quiet reality: days filled with silence, weeks between meaningful interactions, and a gradual feeling that the world has moved on.

WithCare addresses this directly. We connect elders with consistent volunteer presence, animal companionship, and community relationships — not as services delivered, but as genuine human care. The goal is simple: make sure no one feels invisible.

"Practical help matters. But what elders need most is to feel seen, heard, and connected."

WithCare is an active initiative within Synthield. We are building structured, scalable systems for elder care connection — starting with presence and growing with intention.

How Participation Works

Apply

Volunteers and families complete a brief application so we understand needs, availability, and location.

Screen

All volunteers undergo a background check and reference verification before being matched with an elder. Safety is non-negotiable.

Match

We pair volunteers with elders based on compatibility, proximity, and mutual interests — not random assignment.

Orient

Both volunteers and participating elders receive an orientation covering boundaries, communication, and safety.

Check In

Our team checks in monthly with both parties to ensure the connection remains positive and sustainable.

All volunteers complete background checks and reference calls before being matched. Family members are involved in the matching process for participating elders. Confidentiality agreements protect elder privacy and volunteer safety.

Research-Backed Approach

Loneliness is a health crisis. Presence is the intervention.

Evidence-Based

Loneliness & Mortality Risk

Holt-Lunstad's meta-analysis of over 3 million participants found that social isolation increases mortality risk by 26-45% — comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes per day. Loneliness is not just emotional discomfort; it is a direct threat to physical health.

The data is clear: consistent human connection is as vital to longevity as diet, exercise, and sleep.

Evidence-Based

CDC Social Isolation Data

The CDC reports that social isolation in older adults increases dementia risk by 50%, heart disease by 29%, and stroke by 32%. Isolation also correlates with higher rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide — all preventable through structured social connection.

WithCare's model of consistent companionship directly targets the isolation statistics that drive these health outcomes.

Evidence-Based

Intergenerational Program Benefits

Research on intergenerational programs shows dual benefits: elders experience reduced loneliness and improved cognitive function, while youth volunteers develop empathy, communication skills, and sense of purpose. Both groups show measurable improvements in mental health outcomes.

WithCare's model connects elders with youth intentionally — not as charity, but as mutual growth.

Why this approach works: WithCare does not deliver services. It delivers presence — the single most powerful protective factor against the health risks of isolation. The research is unambiguous: consistent human connection reduces mortality risk, slows cognitive decline, and improves quality of life more than many medical interventions. Dignity and companionship are not luxuries. They are medicine.

Who This Is For

For everyone who believes elders deserve to be seen.

Volunteers who want meaningful presence

You want to give your time in a way that genuinely matters. Showing up consistently for an elder — listening, helping, being there — is one of the most direct forms of human service.

Families seeking support for loved ones

You want to know that your elder family member is connected, cared for, and not isolated. WithCare provides structured companionship and community integration alongside family care.

Organizations serving older adults

You work with seniors, care facilities, or retirement communities and want to offer structured volunteer connection programs that go beyond transactional service delivery.

Show up for an elder. It changes two lives.

Your presence — consistent, genuine, and human — is the most powerful form of elder care. One volunteer, one elder, one relationship at a time.
